Calhoun City High School Teacher Fired After Serving Dog Treats to Students
CALHOUN CITY, Miss. — A teacher at Calhoun City High School has been dismissed following an incident where she mistakenly served dog treats instead of beef jerky to her students during a birthday celebration. Superintendent Dr. Lisa Langford reported that on Wednesday, eight children were given what they believed to be a snack intended for humans.
The mix-up caused concern when one student experienced a stomach ache and sought medical attention. In response to the situation, the school nurse acted swiftly. Upon being informed of the incident, she contacted Poison Control for assistance, ensuring the students received the appropriate care and guidance.
Langford emphasized the importance of the nurse’s timely response and assured that the school promptly notified the parents of all students who were involved. It was not disclosed whether any further medical evaluations were necessary for the affected students.
As a result of the incident, the unnamed teacher is no longer part of the Calhoun County School District. The situation has raised questions about food safety protocols within schools, highlighting the need for vigilance in managing snacks and treats provided in school settings.
Parents and guardians have expressed their concerns over the incident, calling for additional oversight to ensure the safety and well-being of students. The district remains committed to preventing such occurrences in the future while ensuring that students have safe and enjoyable experiences during school celebrations.
