Executive Order Signed by Trump Bans Transgender Women from Participating in Women’s Sports

President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order called the “No Men in Women’s Sports Executive Order” on National Girls & Women in Sports Day to prohibit transgender women from competing in women’s sports. This move is part of Trump’s pledge to “keep men out of women’s sports” and is aimed at protecting women’s access to safe and fair athletic opportunities. The order will roll back Biden administration’s guidance on Title IX, which allowed trans students to participate in sports teams and facilities according to their gender identities. The administration will investigate potential violations and work with sports governing bodies to ensure compliance. A Gallup survey found that nearly 70% of U.S. adults believe trans athletes should compete based on their birth sex. Twenty-seven states already have laws banning transgender students from participating in sports according to their gender identity. Some advocates, like Rep. Nancy Mace and former college swimmer Riley Gaines, support the executive order, while LGBTQ advocacy groups warn against the consequences of a “blanket ban” on trans women and girls in sports. Trump has already signed three executive orders targeting transgender people since taking office.
