Kia is recalling over 80,000 Niro vehicles due to an issue that could prevent seat belts and airbags from functioning properly. Frequent adjustments to the front passenger seat could damage wiring controlling critical safety features, leading to airbags not deploying properly in a crash. The recall affects Niro, Niro EV, and Niro Plug-in Hybrid vehicles manufactured between Aug. 10, 2022, and Dec. 13, 2024, with manual front passenger seats. No accidents or injuries have been reported as of Jan. 10. Kia owners will be notified by March to bring their vehicle to a dealership for inspection and necessary repairs. Dealership staff will check the wiring under the front passenger seat, make repairs as needed, and add protective covers to prevent future damage.
