Majority of funding for group attempting to recall Vos came from one out-of-state donor – Journal Times

A group attempting to recall Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos received the majority of its funding from a single out-of-state donor, according to a report by the Journal Times. The group, which is known as the “Committee to Recall Robin Vos,” raised over $130,000 in its efforts to remove Vos from office.

The group’s largest donation, totaling $100,000, came from a single donor based in New York. This contribution accounted for nearly 77% of the total funds raised by the Recall Committee. In addition to the large donation from the out-of-state donor, the group also received smaller contributions from within Wisconsin, with some donors giving as little as $5.

Despite the significant financial support, the efforts to recall Vos ultimately fell short. The group needed to collect over 13,800 signatures from residents of Vos’ district in order to trigger a recall election, but they were unable to gather enough support within the required time frame. Vos has been a prominent figure in Wisconsin politics for years and has served as Assembly Speaker since 2013.

The fundraising tactics of the Recall Committee have raised questions about the influence of out-of-state donors in local politics. Critics argue that large contributions from wealthy donors can distort the democratic process and give undue influence to individuals who do not live in the affected community. However, supporters of the recall effort maintain that they needed all the support they could get in order to challenge Vos’ leadership.

The issue of money in politics continues to be a contentious topic, with ongoing debates about campaign finance reform and the role of outside donors in local elections. Vos remains in office, and it is unclear if there will be further efforts to recall him in the future.
