Politicians grieve for hostages, condemn Hamas, and demand an end to the war

After the Israeli Defense Forces recovered the bodies of six hostages, including American citizen Hersh Goldberg-Polin, condolences poured in from the White House, members of Congress, and political campaigns. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris expressed outrage over the deaths and vowed to hold Hamas leaders accountable. Former President Donald Trump blamed the deaths on Biden and Harris, sparking political tensions. Members of Congress from both parties mourned the hostages and condemned Hamas, emphasizing the need for their safe return.

World leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, called for an immediate ceasefire and the release of all hostages to end the conflict in Gaza. Thousands of Israelis protested in Tel Aviv for a hostage deal, as negotiations for the hostages’ release have not yet been successful. The White House has been pushing for a ceasefire proposal to bring about the hostages’ safe return.

The deaths of over 1,200 people and the taking of hostages during Hamas’ terrorist attack on Oct. 7 have led to widespread condemnation of the organization, with many referring to them as “monsters” and “evil.” Both American and international leaders are urging for an end to the violence and for the release of the hostages to bring an end to the conflict.
