A New York City urologist, Darius Paduch, was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing patients, including minors, over a number of years. Paduch induced victims to travel to his office in Manhattan, as well as other locations in New Jersey, and later continued his abuse when he moved his practice to Long Island in 2019. Prosecutors described instances where Paduch masturbated patients, exposed himself, and made inappropriate sexual comments during medical appointments. He used his position to deceive victims into believing the abuse was medically necessary. The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York called Paduch’s actions “perverse and pervasive,” stating that he preyed on vulnerable patients, including children, to gratify his own desires. Paduch was also ordered to pay restitution, although his attorney plans to file an appeal, maintaining his innocence. If you suspect a child is being abused, you can call the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline or dial 911 if the child’s life is in immediate danger.
