Located in the historic Fondren neighborhood, Brent’s Drugs is a classic drugstore that has been serving ice cream, milkshakes, and diner comfort foods since 1946. However, hidden in the back of the drugstore is a bar called The Apothecary, which was recently named one of the 27 Bars of the Year by USA TODAY.
Co-founder and co-owner Jonathan Shull expressed his gratitude for being included on the prestigious list, calling it incredible. The inspiration for The Apothecary came when the owners discovered the back storeroom that used to house pharmacy drugs and decided to turn it into a cocktail bar.
The bar’s interior design and drinks program are inspired by the soda fountain aesthetic, with a massive pharmacy cabinet from 1946 serving as a focal point behind the bar. The Apothecary has gained popularity in Jackson, becoming a go-to spot for a night out with friends or a date night.
Known for its classic cocktails and signature drinks such as the Adult Swim and Pink Phosphorescent, The Apothecary offers a unique and historic drinking experience. In addition to cocktails, the bar also serves beers, house wines, and a variety of other drink options.
Guests can enjoy classic cocktails like the French 75 and Old Fashioned, as well as unique creations like the Baywatch and Big Iron. The Apothecary’s drink menu offers something for every palate.
Located at 655 Duling Ave. in Jackson, Mississippi, The Apothecary provides a one-of-a-kind experience for cocktail enthusiasts. Whether you’re looking for a classic Negroni or a creative take on a Margarita, The Apothecary has something for everyone to enjoy.
