Athletic Program at University of Mississippi – Ole Miss

No. 18 Ole Miss football is set to host Oklahoma for the first time as a member of the SEC this weekend, marking just the second meeting between the two programs. The only other matchup occurred in the 1999 Independence Bowl, where Ole Miss secured a thrilling 27-25 victory with a game-winning field goal as time expired.

This game will also be the first time that Oklahoma plays a football game in the state of Mississippi. The Sooners have a winning record in true road games against current SEC members and have historically performed well on the road against teams from the conference.

Both Ole Miss and Oklahoma have storied football programs, with a combined total of 1,629 wins, 98 bowl appearances, and 56 bowl victories. The Sooners have been consistently successful, winning a national title the year after their Independence Bowl appearance, while the Rebels have proved to be a formidable opponent with 25 bowl wins.

This weekend’s game will mark the first SEC contest between Ole Miss and Oklahoma. The Rebels have a mixed record in their first games against new SEC opponents but have established themselves as one of the 10 remaining original SEC schools from 1932.
