Mississippi State University-Meridian and Wallace Community College have joined forces to create a new Partnership Pathway that allows WCC students in Demopolis and Selma, Alabama, to earn their undergraduate degree from MSU. The five-year agreement, which started in the spring semester, offers degree-specific course plans for programs such as healthcare services, event and hospitality management, accounting, and business administration.
The collaboration between the two institutions was initiated by Willy Hill and Blaine Hathcock, leading to a valuable opportunity for students in West Alabama. MSU-Meridian’s dedication to expanding educational opportunities in the region dates back to 2013 when an out-of-state tuition waiver was introduced for students in certain Alabama counties.
Wallace Community College invested $40,000 in camera and computer technology at its campuses in Selma and Demopolis to facilitate synchronous instruction between students and off-site instructors. This innovation allows students to participate in real-time classes with MSU-Meridian educators without the need for extensive travel.
WCC President James Mitchell has shown strong support for partnerships with four-year institutions like Mississippi State. The collaboration is expected to enhance opportunities for students and strengthen ties between the two institutions in the future.
