Chris Stamps: Rising Coaching Star at Southwest Mississippi Community College

SUMMIT, Miss. (VDN) — Chris Stamps, a former standout football player from Warren Central High School, is making waves in the coaching realm as he embarks on his second season with Southwest Mississippi Community College (SMCC) as an assistant coach overseeing the linebackers.

Hailing from Vicksburg, Stamps brings a wealth of experience, having previously coached at East Central Community College, Mississippi Delta Community College, and the University at Buffalo. His coaching expertise also extends to the professional circuit, where he worked with the Orlando Guardians in the XFL.

Stamps has already established a notable track record in player development, having guided athletes like Dee Williams of the New York Giants and Nathaniel “Bookie” Watson of the Cleveland Browns toward their NFL careers. His coaching philosophy is rooted in his own exceptional career at Warren Central, where he distinguished himself as a two-way player under the mentorship of long-time coach Josh Morgan.

As a high school Viking, Stamps recorded impressive stats, including 13 interceptions, 902 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns, achieving recognition as a three-star recruit by ESPN before committing to Mississippi State University. After redshirting, he transferred to Northwest Mississippi Community College, where he enjoyed a standout 2017 season, helping lead the Rangers to an 8-3 record with a personal tally of 34 tackles and various defensive accolades.

Stamps finished his collegiate career at Middle Tennessee State University before transitioning to coaching full-time—a role he is passionate about as he leads the next generation of players in Mississippi. With his dedication and experience, Chris Stamps is well on his way to becoming a prominent figure in the world of football coaching.
