Mississippi State University to Host MHSAA Football State Championships

STARKVILLE — Mississippi State University (MSU) is set to welcome the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) football state championships back to Davis Wade Stadium this December, marking the first time since 2016. The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi Gridiron Classic will occur from December 4-6, celebrating the talent and passion of high school football across the state.

MSU Athletic Director Zac Selmon expressed excitement about hosting the championships, emphasizing the opportunity for student-athletes to compete at one of the nation’s premier venues. "We’re honored to have teams, families, and fans join us in what we like to call ‘The Best Small Town in the South,’" he stated.

Paige Hunt, director of tourism at the Greater Starkville Development Partnership, echoed this enthusiasm, highlighting the town’s charm and amenities. "Players and spectators will enjoy not just the championship action at Davis Wade Stadium, but also the variety of dining options, unique shops, and vibrant neighborhoods Starkville has to offer," she said.

The event will start on December 4 with the Class 1A and 5A games, followed by the Class 4A and 6A on December 5, and concluding with the Class 3A, 2A, and 7A games on December 6.

The championships have fluctuated in venue over the past decade, transitioning from the Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson to various Division I football sites. MSU will host for the first time in seven years, having previously hosted in 2016.

MHSAA Executive Director Rickey Neaves expressed gratitude towards MSU and Starkville for their support, assuring a fantastic experience for all participants. As local teams prepare for the championships, excitement builds for an unforgettable showcase of high school football in Mississippi.
