Eugene, Ore. – Ole Miss Track & Field Makes History with NCAA High Jump Champion
In a stunning display of athleticism at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Championships, Arvesta Troupe, a junior from Fulton, Mississippi, won Ole Miss’s first NCAA high jump title, contributing to an impressive eighth-place finish for the Rebel men’s team, the best in the program’s history.
Troupe’s journey to the championship is remarkable. Transitioning from a high school basketball star to a state champion high jumper, he walked on to Ole Miss and has now emerged as one of the nation’s top competitors in the discipline. Last year, Troupe faced disappointment by narrowly missing out at the NCAA East Regional, but his determination paid off this season.
Competing at the prestigious Hayward Field, Troupe successfully cleared his first three bars and set a new personal record of 2.27m (7-05.25) on his first attempt, solidifying his championship victory as no one else matched his height. He later attempted a record of 2.30m but fell short. Troupe’s performance not only etched his name in Ole Miss history but also placed him behind only Olympian Ricky Robertson in the school record books.
Under the guidance of head coach Connie Price-Smith, Troupe’s victory and the team’s overall performance contributed to a historic moment for Ole Miss. With 22 points, the Rebels are tied for eighth place, matching this program’s best national finish last seen in 2013.
In addition to Troupe’s triumph, senior Toby Gillen almost added to the Rebels’ accolades with a personal-best in the 5K final, finishing just shy of All-America honors. As the collegiate season wraps up, Ole Miss athletes will shift focus to upcoming national and international competitions, including the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September.
