Janet Mann Appointed as Leader of Arkansas DHS

Governor Sarah Sanders Appoints Janet Mann as New Secretary of Arkansas Department of Human Services

Little Rock, AR – On June 11, Governor Sarah Sanders announced the appointment of Janet Mann as the new Secretary of the Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS). Mann, who currently serves as the Deputy Secretary of Programs and State Medicaid Director, will succeed Kristi Putnam, who is departing for Kentucky after two-and-a-half successful years in office.

In her tenure, Putnam implemented significant reforms across various vital programs, including foster care, Medicaid, and maternal health. Governor Sanders praised her leadership, stating, “Kristi has overhauled the Department of Human Services, bringing essential changes that have positively impacted many Arkansans. My administration was fortunate to have her.”

Mann brings over 20 years of experience in healthcare and finance, previously holding roles as chief financial officer and division director at Arkansas DHS, as well as deputy administrator for Mississippi Medicaid. The DHS programs she oversees serve approximately one in three Arkansans annually, with a total budget nearing $11 billion.

“I am honored by Governor Sanders’ decision to select me for this role," Mann remarked. "We have made enormous progress in supporting Arkansans who need it. Under Governor Sanders’ leadership, DHS will continue delivering for the people of Arkansas."

Putnam expressed gratitude for her time in the administration, emphasizing her commitment to serving families. She believes Mann is well-suited to lead DHS into the future, describing her as "one of the most creative policy experts" she has known.

As Mann steps into her new role, she aims to build upon the momentum generated under Putnam’s leadership and enhance the state’s human services for all Arkansans.
