LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — On Wednesday, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced a pivotal executive order aimed at modernizing and enhancing the state’s information technology (IT) services. This initiative promises to bolster the efficiency and security of government operations across Arkansas.
Outlined in the governor’s press release, the modernization plan will unfold through six strategic steps:

Centralization of IT Administration: The Department of Information Systems (DIS) will oversee all state IT functions, ensuring streamlined operations.

Statewide Project Management: DIS will manage technology projects statewide, assessing their effectiveness while reducing redundancy in IT services and procurement.

Centralized IT Governance: A new centralized governance model will help standardize oversight across all state entities. The DIS will assemble an IT Governance Team comprising representatives from key departments, including Finance and Administration and State Procurement.

Comprehensive IT Assessments: DIS will conduct extensive evaluations of current IT and telecommunications assets, reviewing hardware, software, vendor agreements, and system performance to identify inefficiencies.

Comprehensive IT Consolidation Plan: This plan will focus on consolidating duplicative services, streamlining resource management, and enhancing transparency regarding IT expenditures.
- Central Cybersecurity Office: A dedicated office will be established to manage cyber risk and enforce statewide cybersecurity standards, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
Governor Sanders stressed the necessity of these enhancements, highlighting their importance for effective governance and service delivery. “Modernizing and enhancing the efficiency, security, and oversight of IT services is critical,” she stated.
The Division of Information Systems, part of the Arkansas Department of Transformation and Shared Services, will spearhead the implementation of this comprehensive executive order, signaling a robust commitment to advancing the state’s technological landscape.
