Mississippi State Track and Field Prepares for NCAA Outdoor Championships
EUGENE, Ore. – The Mississippi State track and field team is gearing up for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, marking the final meet of the season this weekend. The men’s competition begins on Wednesday, featuring five talented athletes across three events.
Leading the charge is Peyton Bair, the reigning NCAA Indoor heptathlon champion, who is set to make his mark in the decathlon. Seeded second, Bair will contest ten events over the first two days, aiming to add to his impressive collegiate accolades.
Competing in the javelin are Rémi Rougetet and Tuomas Närhi. Rougetet, a two-time All-American, enters the meet after a commendable fifth-place finish in the event at the 2024 championships. Meanwhile, Närhi is set to make his NCAA debut following a strong season that included a second-place finish at the East First Round.
The men’s roster is completed by Abdullahi Hassan and Sam Navarro, who will compete in the 800m. This marks Hassan’s fourth appearance at the outdoor championships, and he enters with an impressive track record as the reigning NCAA Indoor Runner-up. Navarro, participating in his first NCAA Championship, secured his spot with a significant personal best at the East First Round.
The women’s competition kicks off on Thursday, coinciding with Bair’s decathlon events that evening. Fans can catch all the action live via streaming on ESPN+.
