Press Release: Kid Coach Salutes Young Hero Luke Puckett of Pearl
Pearl, MS – October 2023 – In a heartwarming initiative, Children’s of Mississippi has partnered with the Ole Miss Rebels to celebrate the bravery of pediatric patients through its Kid Coach program. This week’s featured Kid Coach is 12-year-old Luke Puckett from Pearl, who exemplifies courage and resilience.
Luke’s journey began at birth when he was diagnosed with spina bifida. He underwent spinal surgery just a day after his arrival, followed by a month in the neonatal intensive care unit. At three months old, Luke received a shunt to manage hydrocephalus, which had to be revised three years ago. Today, he continues to visit Children’s of Mississippi regularly, requiring monthly appointments with a close-knit team of specialists, making the hospital feel like a second home.
Despite the challenges he faces, Luke is thriving in the sixth grade and has an infectious spirit that lights up any room. He enjoys playing video games like Roblox, watching YouTube, and indulging in his favorite pastime—wheelchair basketball with the Mississippi Wheelcats.
Luke’s remarkable story serves as an inspiration to all, showcasing the extraordinary strength of young people in the face of adversity. As he takes on the role of Kid Coach this weekend, the team at Children’s of Mississippi cheers him on, celebrating his infectious positivity and tenacity.
