Hallie Shoffner Announces Senate Bid to Challenge Cotton

Former Farmer Hallie Shoffner Announces Bid for U.S. Senate

Former Jackson County farmer and entrepreneur Hallie Shoffner is launching her campaign for the Democratic Party nomination for the 2026 U.S. Senate race, aiming to challenge two-time incumbent Republican Senator Tom Cotton. Shoffner will officially kick off her campaign in June.

The decision to run comes after her family’s farm in rural Jackson County was forced to close due to a combination of low commodity prices, high input costs, and federal policies. The Shoffner family operated their farm for six generations but had to cease operations earlier this spring. Hallie Shoffner expressed her frustration with the current economic climate, emphasizing that she could not risk her parents’ financial well-being by continuing operations amid such unfriendly conditions.

"If I can’t farm, I’m going to fight," she stated, highlighting her commitment to change the policies that have impacted farmers adversely. Shoffner is currently assembling her campaign team and strategizing for the nomination process.

The agricultural sector has been struggling, especially since the U.S. Congress has not passed a new Farm Bill since 2018, which has left farmers vulnerable due to outdated commodity price points. Many in the industry were hoping for government intervention to support the faltering farm economy, but no immediate solutions appear to be on the horizon.

With a strong personal connection to farming, Shoffner previously worked at SFR Seed, a family business established in 1988 that focuses on soybean and rice research. She plans to run a campaign that reconnects the Democratic Party with its historical base in Northeast Arkansas, particularly in counties like Craighead. As the CEO of Delta Harvest and a recognized leader, Shoffner aims to bring fresh perspectives to Washington.
