Vicksburg’s Minor: A Dual-Sport Star at Mississippi Delta – The Vicksburg Post

Vicksburg’s Mincer Minor Signs as Two-Sport Athlete at Mississippi Delta Community College

Vicksburg High School standout Mincer Minor IV has achieved a significant milestone in his athletic career by signing to play baseball at Mississippi Delta Community College. This announcement follows his earlier commitment in February to join the college’s football team, making him a rare two-sport collegiate athlete.

Minor, who excelled as a center fielder for the VHS baseball team, expressed his excitement about this dual opportunity. "Not a lot of people can say they went to college and played two sports. It’s something I always wanted to do," he stated during his signing ceremony.

A three-sport star at Vicksburg High, Minor also shined on the football field and the basketball court. In football, he was a first-team All-Region 2-6A defensive back with two interceptions. His contributions to baseball included a .286 batting average and 17 runs this season, while in basketball, he led the team with an average of 12 points per game.

While Minor joked about pursuing basketball if offered a scholarship, it was baseball that captured the attention of Mississippi Delta’s coaching staff during a campus visit. After discussions with baseball coach Adrian Dorsey, he was encouraged to balance both sports, an opportunity he eagerly accepted.

Juggling two collegiate sports is no small feat, but Minor feels prepared. Having successfully managed three sports throughout high school, he believes the skills acquired in each realm will complement one another. "Playing all three sports helps with my athletic ability," he noted, acknowledging the support and legacy of his family—his father, grandfather, and uncles were all prominent athletes with the same name.

Mincer Minor’s journey marks a notable chapter in Vicksburg’s athletic history, inspiring future generations of student-athletes at both the local level and beyond.
