BC Technology Introduces a New Era in the Solar Industry with White Paper Launch

China Unveils Landmark White Paper on Back Contact Solar Technology

BEIJING, April 28, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — In a significant advancement for the photovoltaic industry, the China Electricity Council, TÜV Rheinland, China General Certification Center (CGC), AIKO, and LONGi launched the world’s first authoritative report on Back Contact (BC) solar technology. The white paper, released in Beijing, details BC technology’s industrialization, core advantages, and its sustainable development potential, marking a pivotal phase for this high-efficiency technology.

The event, hosted by Prof. Hui Shen of the Yangtze Delta Solar PV Innovation Center, attracted support from leading experts, including Professor Martin Green from UNSW, who foresees BC technology supplanting TOPCon technology within five years. He praised Chinese innovations in BC applications, highlighting its great potential in enhancing solar efficiency and reducing costs.

Mr. Jinhua Wu from the China Electricity Council emphasized the technology’s ability to drive the industry towards greater efficiency. Meanwhile, Mr. Xiaochao Zhang of China Huaneng Group called for collaborative efforts across the entire industry to advance commercialization.

The white paper outlines BC technology’s record-breaking efficiency, achieving 27.81% this year, just short of the theoretical maximum. The integration of electrodes on the back eliminates shading, significantly improving light absorption. Expert insights were shared by Dr. Qi Gao from TÜV Rheinland, who addressed reliability and testing standards, and other industry leaders who discussed empirical performance data and future trends.

Divided into seven chapters, the white paper serves as a blueprint for global adoption, analyzing BC technology’s principles, standardization, and application across various sectors. Emphasizing BC technology’s role as the "crown jewel" of photovoltaic advancements, it promises to reshape the global solar landscape by enhancing efficiency and facilitating a smooth energy transition.
