Athletics at the University of Mississippi – Ole Miss

Ole Miss has announced that head men’s tennis coach Toby Hansson will be parting ways with the program after 11 seasons at the helm. During his tenure, Hansson led the Rebels to the NCAA Tournament in each of his first eight eligible seasons, including two Sweet 16 appearances. Vice Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics Keith Carter expressed gratitude for Hansson’s dedication to the program, while Hansson himself thanked the university and Coach Chadwick for the opportunity to lead such a storied program.

Despite facing major injuries, Hansson’s Rebels achieved a significant upset over Stanford in 2018 to advance to the Sweet 16, and returned to the round of 16 in 2021. Under Hansson’s guidance, players like Finn Reynolds and Tim Sandkaulen earned All-American recognition and the team secured a winning SEC record for the first time since 2015. Hansson also emphasized academic achievement, helping the team secure ITA All-Academic Team status consistently and coaching multiple SEC men’s tennis Scholar-Athletes of the Year.

Prior to his head coaching role, Hansson had a successful tenure as an assistant and associate head coach under Billy Chadwick, consistently producing top-ranked teams and developing multiple All-American athletes. As a recruiter, Hansson played a key role in bringing in standout players like Nik Scholtz, who went on to earn SEC Player of the Year honors.

Hansson, originally from Bjärred, Sweden, has been recognized for his contributions to the program both on and off the court, and his departure marks the end of an era for Ole Miss men’s tennis. The university will now begin the search for a new head coach to continue the program’s legacy of success.
