Two Rebel seniors from the University of Mississippi, Mason Nichols from the baseball team and Loral Winn from the women’s track & field and cross country team, have been nominated for the SEC H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Postgraduate Scholarship. The award, presented since 1986, honors the top male and female scholar-athletes in the SEC. Recipients receive a $20,000 post-graduate scholarship, with finalists also receiving a $10,000 scholarship. The winners are chosen by a committee of Faculty Athletics Representatives from the SEC institutions and will be recognized at the SEC Spring Meetings in Destin, Florida.

Mason Nichols, a pitcher for the Ole Miss baseball team, has excelled both academically and athletically. He recently received the University of Mississippi’s Taylor Medal and the NCAA’s Walter Byers Graduate Scholarship. Nichols has been a prominent player on the Rebels’ starting rotation this season and has demonstrated a commitment to community service through his involvement in various projects.

Loral Winn, a standout athlete in the women’s track & field and cross country programs, has achieved impressive results throughout her career. She holds records in both sports and has earned multiple accolades, including being named the 2023 SEC Cross Country Women’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Winn is also excelling academically, pursuing a master’s degree in journalism while receiving multiple honors for her academic achievements.
