Rapper Sean Kingston and his mother Janice Turner were found guilty of federal wire fraud for a scheme that defrauded luxury goods vendors out of over $1 million from April 2023 to March 2024. Kingston was initially held in a federal prison after being unable to complete a $100,000 bond, but has since been released pending his sentencing. The scheme involved using Kingston’s celebrity influence and social media accounts to convince sellers to deliver items before payment, which were then paid for with fraudulent wire transfers. Items included a bullet-proof Escalade, watches, and a 232-inch LED TV. Kingston and Turner were found guilty on multiple counts of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud in March by a federal jury. Kingston was ordered to home confinement with electronic monitoring and a surety bond of a home valued at $500,000 and $200,000 in cash. Turner was remanded into federal custody. They are set to be sentenced on July 11 and face up to 20 years in prison for each count.
