First Baptist Church of Bend Dedicates New Building, Nearly Debt-Free
The First Baptist Church of Bend recently dedicated their new building on Oregon and Irving Avenues, with a large crowd in attendance. The impressive ceremony marked the completion of the structure, which was virtually debt-free thanks to the generous pledges made by the congregation. The $16,000 debt on the building was completely liquidated, with $13,163.07 subscribed before the dedication service. The remaining debt was underwritten by church officers.

Special credit was given to the women of the church, who pledged $2,000 towards paying off the debt and donated a beautiful stained glass window for the church. The men of the church were also praised for their hard work in building the structure. Additionally, the Brooks-Scanlon Lumber Company donated 172.3 acres of land to the Bend Golf Club for a new golf club.

In other news, Wickiup Reservoir reached a record volume of water, holding 191,000 acre feet. A missing plane with four people on board was sought in central Oregon, and a 20,000-gallon fuel oil tank arrived in Bend for the St. Charles Hospital. Brooks-Scanlon, Inc. was reported to be selling bark as garden mulch, and a new walking and running event was scheduled in Bend to raise money for breast cancer research.

The inaugural Heaven Can Wait 5K Walk and Run, benefiting Sara’s Project, is set to take place in June, honoring the late Sara Fisher of Bend. The event is expected to attract 500 participants, with a focus on participation rather than competition. Celebration Alive, featuring informational booths and activities, will accompany the event in Drake Park.
