A man in Memphis was accidentally shot by his dog when the pet jumped on the bed and its paw got stuck in the trigger guard of a gun, causing it to go off and graze the man’s left thigh. The incident occurred in the Frayser neighborhood early in the morning. The man’s friend, who was also in the bed at the time, left the home with the gun after the incident. The man was taken to the hospital in noncritical condition. The dog involved in the incident was a pit bull puppy named Oreo. The Memphis Police Department recommends keeping guns locked at home and provides free gun locks at precincts, although Tennessee does not have any specific laws mandating gun owners to secure their firearms in a certain way. Shell casings were found on the floor of the front room where the incident took place. The man’s injuries were not life-threatening, but the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of gun safety and proper storage of firearms to prevent accidents like this from happening in the future.
