UMS-Wright recruits accomplished Mississippi coach to head football program

UMS-Wright has announced that Mississippi native Sam Williams will be the next head football coach, replacing Terry Curtis who retired earlier this year. Williams, a former Mississippi State wide receiver, brings a wealth of coaching experience, having led successful programs at Pelahatchie, Ridgeland, and Brandon in Mississippi.

Williams, who led Brandon to the state championship game in 2024, has a proven track record of developing student-athletes both on and off the field. The school’s Head of School, Doug Barber, expressed confidence in Williams’ ability to continue the tradition of excellence at UMS-Wright and help players reach their highest potential.

The formal announcement of Williams’ hiring will be made at a press conference next week. Williams was chosen from a pool of highly qualified candidates after an extensive search and interview process. His leadership, passion for developing student-athletes, and commitment to building relationships were key factors in his selection.

Williams’ teams have consistently made the playoffs and achieved success on the field throughout his coaching career. Under his guidance, UMS-Wright looks forward to a bright future and continued success in football. Fans and players alike are excited to see the impact Williams will have on the team as they embark on this new chapter with their new head coach.
