Mikaela Shiffrin finished third in a World Cup slalom race in Sweden, marking her 156th career podium finish and breaking an all-time record. Despite leading after the first run, Shiffrin struggled in the second run and was beaten by surprise winner Katharina Truppe and second-place finisher Katharina Liensberger. Truppe earned her first career World Cup win at age 29. Shiffrin, also 29, expressed pride in her performance and her ongoing recovery from a serious crash. She now holds the all-time wins record with 100 victories. Both Shiffrin and Truppe won slalom bronze medals at junior world championships, but their careers took different paths. Shiffrin is aiming for her ninth career season-long slalom title, but will have to perform well in the final race in Idaho. With top contenders Zrinka Ljutic and Camille Rast having subpar finishes, Ljutic leads the slalom standings and could secure the title with a top-three result. Shiffrin plans to train in Europe before the final race in the United States.
