Chiefs release wide receiver Xavier Worthy following district attorney’s decision not to pursue charges

Xavier Worthy, a wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, was released after a district attorney in Texas declined to pursue charges against him for felony domestic violence. The Williamson County District Attorney stated the case was not being accepted at this time after speaking with witnesses and investigating. Worthy’s lawyers claimed he was innocent of the charge, stating it stemmed from a situation with a female who had been living in his home. The lawyers said she made a baseless allegation against Worthy after being asked to leave the residence due to infidelity.

The Chiefs were aware of the situation and gathering information. Worthy was chosen by the Chiefs in the 2023 draft and had a successful rookie season, becoming a key player for the team. He finished the season with impressive stats and was a standout in the Super Bowl despite the team’s loss. The Chiefs relied on Worthy partially due to an injury to another wide receiver, Rashee Rice, who was involved in a high-speed car crash in March 2024.

Rice admitted to driving the car involved in the crash and is facing both civil lawsuits and criminal charges as a result of the incident. Worthy’s legal situation was ultimately resolved without charges being pursued, allowing him to focus on his football career with the Chiefs.
