Several Mississippi school districts are taking precautions ahead of impending storms by announcing early dismissal on Tuesday. A 16 WAPT Impact Day has been issued for the region, with strong gradient winds expected to gust between 30-50mph throughout the day. A line of strong to severe storms is forecasted to move quickly across the viewing area from 1-6p.m., hitting the Jackson metro area between 3-4p.m.
The Simpson County School District will start releasing students at 12:45p.m., while Madison County Schools have set varying dismissal times for different grade levels, ranging from 10 a.m. for preschool to 12:30 p.m. for high schools. Extracurricular activities for Tuesday have been cancelled.
Similarly, the Brookhaven School District, Lincoln County Schools, and Lawrence County School District have all decided to dismiss students early at 12:30 p.m. to ensure their safety in light of the anticipated severe weather conditions.
Parents are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and make necessary arrangements for their children’s early pick-up from school. The districts are prioritizing the safety and well-being of students and staff members by taking proactive measures to avoid potential risks associated with the approaching storms.
