Vicksburg’s Shane Lewis Smashes 2 Home Runs to Lead Victory over No. 15 Mississippi State

Vicksburg native Shane Lewis led the Troy University baseball team to victory over No. 15 Mississippi State with two home runs in a 6-5 win. Lewis, who transferred from Mississippi State in 2021, has now hit five home runs in the first eight games of the season, maintaining a .308 batting average. The Trojans got an early lead with a strong performance from Lewis, as well as key contributions from Meier, Cavill, and Watts.

Despite a grand slam by Mississippi State’s Sullivan in the fifth inning, the Trojans managed to tie the game at five runs, ultimately pulling ahead in the ninth inning with a go-ahead home run from Meier. The victory marked Troy’s first win over an SEC team since 2023 and their first-ever victory over Mississippi State.

The game also showcased strong pitching performances from Adam Falinski, Noah Thigpen, and Grady Gorgen, who combined for 12 strikeouts. Freshman Thigpen, in particular, impressed with 1.1 scoreless innings and two strikeouts, lowering his season ERA to 2.08.

Troy’s hitting streaks and overall performance demonstrate the team’s resilience and potential for success this season. With strong hitters like Lewis leading the charge, the Trojans look poised for more victories as they continue to take on tough opponents in the weeks to come.
