Lowndes County Woman Accused of Stealing from School Booster Funds

Heather Oglesby, the treasurer of the New Hope Touchdown Club, a non-profit booster club for New Hope Schools in Lowndes County, has been arrested for embezzlement. The investigation was launched after the club’s board noticed discrepancies in the financial records provided by Oglesby. The records revealed unauthorized transactions, including transfers to Oglesby’s personal account via CashApp. The embezzlement charges against Oglesby span from January 2023 to January 2025, totaling around $20,030.50. Further unauthorized transactions are currently under investigation, with more charges expected to be brought against Oglesby.

Heather Oglesby is currently in custody at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center, with a bond set at $7,500. The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information regarding this case to come forward. The New Hope Touchdown Club is working to recover the misappropriated funds and is enhancing its financial oversight to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The arrest of Oglesby serves as a reminder of the importance of transparency and accountability in non-profit organizations. Embezzlement not only impacts the financial stability of these organizations but also undermines the trust of the community. The authorities are working diligently to ensure justice is served and that the embezzled funds are returned to the New Hope Touchdown Club.
