A Delta Air Lines flight returning to Atlanta shortly after takeoff due to possible smoke in the aircraft. Flight 876 took off from Atlanta and was headed to South Carolina before landing back in Atlanta 35 minutes later. The flight crew followed procedures to ensure the safety of passengers. Video footage from a passenger showed smoke in the cabin, with passengers covering their mouths and noses. Emergency procedures were followed to get priority handling from air traffic control. Slides were deployed for evacuation upon landing, with assistance from Atlanta Fire Rescue. Airport operations were moderately impacted as a result. This incident marks the second smoke-related issue for Delta within a week, with another flight returning to Los Angeles due to smoke in the galley. The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate both incidents. Mirna Alsharif and Jay Blackman reported on the incident, and Nicole Duarte and Nollaig O’Connor contributed to the coverage.
