Jasper Greene of New Haven, Connecticut, has pleaded guilty to murder in the tragic stray-bullet killing of Mabel Martinez Antongiorgi, the mother of Puerto Rican Olympic athlete Yarimar Mercado Martinez. The 56-year-old woman was fatally shot while sewing in her Waterbury home on April 9, 2022. Greene, along with two other men, was involved in the shooting, which was the result of a dispute that one of the suspects had with another man. The suspects shot up a car on Martinez Antongiorgi’s street, mistakenly believing the man was inside. Another bystander was wounded but survived. Greene faces a 35-year sentence for murder as part of his plea deal, with the opportunity to argue for 30 years at his sentencing on June 3.
