Judge rules Ohio sex worker accused of fatally drugging 4 customers can proceed to trial

Ohio sex worker Rebecca Auborn, charged with fatally drugging four customers and attempting to kill a fifth, has been deemed competent to stand trial. The judge’s ruling allows for the legal proceedings to move forward, although a trial date has not been set yet. Auborn faces nearly 30 charges, including murder, aggravated robbery, and felonious assault, to which she has pleaded not guilty. The competency exam was ordered by the judge last June, and a forensic examiner determined Auborn’s ability to understand the charges against her and assist in her defense. Authorities allege that Auborn met her victims for sex, drugged them with fentanyl, and then robbed them. Autopsy reports confirm that four individuals, including Wayne Akin, died of overdoses caused by Auborn. A fifth person survived an attempted overdose and Auborn faces charges of felonious assault and aggravated robbery in that case as well. A family member of one of the victims expressed relief at the judge’s ruling, as it marks a step towards justice and closure for the families involved. Despite the progress, they acknowledge that the trial process will be challenging and are eager for it to be over.
