Last week, employees at a Market Basket in New Hampshire found a two-foot-long Ornate Cat-eyed Snake hiding among their shipment of bananas. The mildly venomous snake, native to Ecuador, was dubbed a “hissing hitchhiker” and was rehomed with Rainforest Reptile Shows Inc. after being discovered. Conservation officer Griffin McKeown noted that possession of venomous snakes is prohibited by New Hampshire law, making this a rare and unusual incident. The snake was unharmed and is now in the care of an educational organization specializing in exotic animal care. Rainforest Reptile Shows Inc. expressed gratitude to officials for the smooth transition of the snake, noting that it primarily feeds on amphibians and lizards and requires specialized care due to being a nocturnal species. The discovery of the snake, dubbed “Snakes on a Plantain” by some, could potentially inspire a movie plot as a bizarre stowaway incident at a grocery store in New Hampshire.
