Assistant coach of the Dallas Mavericks arrested in assault probe


Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Darrell Armstrong, 56, was arrested by Dallas police after an argument with a victim that resulted in Armstrong hitting the victim with a gun and threatening to shoot. The incident took place at about 3:45 a.m. in the 1000 block of Ross Avenue. The victim was treated at the scene by Dallas Fire Rescue. Armstrong and the victim knew each other, but it is unclear if Armstrong has legal representation. The Mavericks are aware of the incident and have placed Armstrong on administrative suspension pending the outcome of legal proceedings. Armstrong, who spent two seasons as a player with the Mavericks and joined the coaching staff in 2008-09, is not currently in jail. Dallas police are conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident.
