The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) is currently working with counties to assess storm damage following severe weather on February 15-16, 2025. Reports indicate that homes have been damaged, trees are down, roads are closed, and there are power outages across the state. Fortunately, there have been no injuries reported to MEMA at this time.
As of 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, there are 41,000 reported power outages in Mississippi. Initial damage assessments have begun, with 7 counties currently reporting damage including Lee, Chickasaw, Forrest, Itawamba, Rankin, Wayne, and Walthall. MEMA expects this number to change as assessments continue.
Residents who have experienced damage are encouraged to file insurance claims, document the damage with photos, and report the damage to their county or MEMA via the self-report tool. If immediate needs are unmet, residents are advised to contact their county emergency management agency for assistance. A list of county contacts can be found on the MEMA website.
MEMA is actively working with affected counties to address the storm damage and restore power to impacted areas. Residents are reminded to stay safe and follow any instructions or updates provided by local authorities.
