Suspect in Mississippi murder case captured in Vero Beach

A fugitive wanted for capital murder in Mississippi was apprehended in Vero Beach, Florida after nearly a month on the run. Rashawn Hawkins, 23, was captured at his residence on 42nd street by the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office in coordination with a U.S. Marshals Task Force. Hawkins was wanted for the shooting death of Patrick Patterson in a home invasion in Corinth, Mississippi on January 15. He was immediately taken into custody and transported to Indian River County Jail without bond, facing extradition back to Mississippi.

Corinth Police had previously identified Hawkins, along with Mariah Vanderwal, Virginia Schauer, and Antonious Bean as suspects in the case. Vanderwal and Schauer, who were living at the residence where the shooting occurred, reported that a man entered the house, shot Patterson, and then fled the scene. All parties involved have now been arrested, with Hawkins being the last to be captured after evading police and traveling south.

The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office shared a video of Hawkins’ arrest on their Facebook page, showing five agents ambushing him at a tri-plex in Vero Beach. Local authorities worked diligently to track down the fugitive and bring him to justice for his alleged involvement in the tragic incident.
