A crashed airplane with three deceased individuals inside has been discovered in Alaska during a search for a missing flight that disappeared with 10 people on board. The Coast Guard located the wreckage about 34 miles southeast of Nome. The aircraft, a Bering Air Cessna Caravan, took off from Unalakleet and was en route to Nome, but experienced a rapid loss in elevation and speed around 3:18 p.m. Thursday, according to radar analysis.
Governor Mike Dunleavy expressed sadness over the disappearance of the flight and offered prayers for the passengers, pilot, and their families. Nome and Unalakleet rely on air and water transport or snowmobiles for travel, as they are not connected by the state’s highway system. The circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation, and updates will be provided as the story develops.
