Square, Cash App, and Visa have joined forces with New Orleans nonprofit organization Propeller to support local food and beverage businesses with technology and expertise. The partnership kicked off with an event called “Feeding NOLA’s Future,” where 125 businesses were provided with free Square hardware, upgraded technology from Visa, and personalized sessions with industry experts. The initiative aims to help small businesses succeed and expand their access to technology.
In a press release, Ming-Tai Huh, head of food and beverage at Square, highlighted the collaboration as a way to support the small business community. Visa Senior Vice President Kirk Stuart emphasized the importance of technology for small businesses in finding new avenues for growth.
According to a report by PYMNTS Intelligence and American Express, restaurants need to integrate modern payment solutions like digital wallets, mobile apps, and QR codes to enhance customer experiences and operational efficiency. The report also found that implementing automated payment processing and digital ordering platforms can improve efficiency, reduce cash handling, and increase staff retention and satisfaction.
Square previously noted that quick-service restaurants and cafes are particularly well-suited to automate tasks and streamline operations using technology. Huh highlighted how technology can help lower operating costs for both front and back of house operations in these establishments.
The partnership between Square, Cash App, Visa, and Propeller demonstrates a collective commitment to supporting small businesses in New Orleans and helping them thrive in the digital age.
