Government agencies delete LGBTQ web pages and eliminate information on trans and intersex individuals.

The Trump administration has been removing and censoring web pages mentioning LGBTQ people and issues. Examples include the removal of a web page about tobacco use among LGBTQ people from the CDC website, information about an LGBTQ+ working group at the Justice Department, a page dedicated to the Commerce Department’s LGBTQ program, and resources about avoiding sexual orientation discrimination on the Labor Department’s website. The CDC also removed its Youth Risk Behavior Survey, which provided important federal data on LGBTQ youth. This removal is in compliance with President Trump’s Executive Orders targeting transgender rights and gender ideology, which declares that the United States will only recognize two sexes, male and female, assigned at birth and unchangeable.

Furthermore, Trump has signed executive orders barring transgender people from enlisting and serving in the military and prohibiting federal funding for transition-related care for minors. LGBTQ advocacy groups like GLAAD have criticized these actions as censorship and an attempt to make it difficult for LGBTQ Americans to access resources or see themselves reflected under Trump’s presidency. The removal and censorship of LGBTQ-related information from government websites is seen as an attempt to diminish and erase the LGBTQ community, but GLAAD and other advocacy groups are determined to ensure visibility and support for LGBTQ individuals.
