Arkansas Surpasses 50,000 Registered Electric Vehicles for the First Time
Arkansas has reached a significant milestone in the adoption of electric vehicles, with over 50,000 EVs registered in the state in 2024. According to Scott Hardin, spokesman for the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration, total EV registrations saw a significant increase of 61.57% to 58,387 in 2024 from 36,137 in 2023.
The state closed out 2024 with strong EV registration totals, surpassing 50,000 registered EVs for the first time. Hardin predicts that Arkansas will reach 60,000 registered EVs early in the year. Pulaski, Benton, and Washington counties lead the state in total EV registrations, with a combined total of 28,659 electric vehicles.
Fully electric EV registrations saw a 33.63% increase in 2024, reaching 9,214 by the end of the year. Hybrid electric vehicle registrations also experienced substantial growth, with 49,173 hybrid EVs registered in Arkansas. Washington and Benton counties have a significant portion of registered EVs, with 3,307 fully electric vehicles and 12,168 hybrids.
The surge in EV registrations in Arkansas reflects a national trend, with the share of electric and hybrid vehicle sales in the United States rising to 21.2% in the third quarter of 2024. This increase is largely driven by battery electric vehicle sales, showcasing a growing interest in environmentally friendly transportation options. Arkansas is on track to continue its upward trajectory in EV adoption, embracing a cleaner and more sustainable future for transportation in the state.
