29 people have died as a result of wildfires in the Los Angeles area


The wildfires in the Los Angeles area this month have resulted in 29 deaths, with the most recent victim passing away in the hospital due to the Palisades Fire which destroyed thousands of homes in Pacific Palisades. The blaze has burned 23,448 acres and destroyed 6,837 homes and structures. Residents were allowed to return to some areas of the fire zone, as the fire was 95% contained. Another fire, the Eaton Fire, broke out on the same day and caused major damage in Altadena, Pasadena, and Sierra Madre. This fire destroyed 9,418 homes and structures and burned 14,021 acres, with containment at 98%. Los Angeles Fire Chief has described these wildfires as one of the most destructive disasters in the city’s history, exacerbated by hurricane-force Santa Ana winds. The causes of both fires are currently under investigation. Overall, the devastation caused by these wildfires has been significant, with thousands of homes destroyed and lives lost in the process.
