Vicksburg High School standout linebacker Dennis Battle Jr. excitedly signed with Southwest Mississippi Community College during a recent ceremony at his school. Battle, who has been playing football since age 8, had an impressive high school career despite facing some injuries in his final year. Throughout his time at Vicksburg High, Battle was a force to be reckoned with on the field, racking up numerous tackles, interceptions, sacks, and other defensive stats. He was also instrumental in helping his team reach the North State Championship Game for the first time in two decades.
Battle, who described signing with Southwest Mississippi Community College as feeling like a homecoming due to some of the coaches being from Vicksburg, expressed gratitude towards his coaches, friends, family, and especially his late mother for their support throughout his football journey. The young linebacker has proven himself to be a talented and dedicated player, earning accolades such as All-County and All-District selections during his high school career.
As Battle continues his football journey at the community college level, he looks forward to further developing his skills and working towards reaching the next level in his athletic career. Despite facing challenges and setbacks along the way, Battle remains optimistic and grateful for the experiences and relationships he has gained through the sport. With a promising future ahead, Battle’s determination and passion for football serve as inspiration for aspiring athletes in Vicksburg and beyond.
