Mississippi lawmaker, Republican state Rep. Justin Keen, has proposed a bill that would pay bounty hunters to assist in the deportation of illegal immigrants. Under House Bill 1484, bounty hunters would receive a $1,000 reward for each successful deportation they contribute to. Keen stated that the legislation aims to keep Mississippi communities safe and support President Trump’s agenda on illegal immigration.
The proposed Mississippi Illegal Alien Certified Bounty Hunter Program would be funded by the general assembly and administered by the state treasurer. The program is intended to encourage collaboration between law enforcement and private citizens in identifying illegal immigrants in the state, as well as alleviate financial burdens on Mississippi taxpayers associated with illegal immigration.
This bill comes at a time when the Trump administration is focusing on stricter policies to combat illegal migration and crime. Federal immigration authorities have made numerous arrests of illegal immigrants with criminal histories, highlighting the need for increased efforts to secure the borders and protect citizens.
DeSoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton expressed support for the proposed legislation, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety of Mississippians and supporting federal initiatives to address illegal immigration. The bill aligns with the administration’s efforts to address the challenges posed by illegal immigration while upholding the importance of legal immigration in the United States.
