Southern Miss is on the hunt for a new head football coach following the firing of Will Hall in October. Athletic director Jeremy McClain promised an efficient search, and interest from candidates across the country has been high, despite some skepticism about the job’s attractiveness. Some names to watch include Bryant Vincent from Louisiana Monroe, Mike Jacobs from Mercer, Mike Shanahan from Indiana, Brennan Marion from UNLV, and Joe Judge from Ole Miss.
Vincent, known for turning around struggling programs, has been successful at ULM and could be a strong contender. Jacobs has a history of winning at the Division II and FCS levels, while Shanahan has experience leading dynamic offenses at Indiana and James Madison. Marion’s innovative offensive schemes have earned him recognition, and Judge, despite his lack of college coaching experience, has a strong coaching pedigree from his time in the NFL.
McClain aims to have a new coach in place before the early signing period in December, putting pressure on the search process. With a variety of candidates bringing different strengths and backgrounds to the table, the decision on who will lead Southern Miss’s football program into the future will be an important one. Stay tuned as the school’s athletic administration works to make a selection in the coming weeks.
