Kirby Smart admits to inadvertently pushing Mississippi State QB on sideline during Georgia’s win

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart led his team to a 41-31 victory over Mississippi State, bringing their record to 5-1. However, Smart was caught on camera shoving Mississippi State quarterback Michael Van Buren, though he claimed he was unaware of the incident and was simply trying to get his defensive coordinator’s attention. Smart expressed frustration with his team’s defensive penalties during the game, calling them “dumb, dumb, dumb” and acknowledging that they gifted Mississippi State points and first downs. Despite the penalties, quarterback Carson Beck had a strong performance, throwing for 459 yards and three touchdowns, though he did throw two interceptions. The Bulldogs amassed over 600 yards of offense in the game. Georgia will face off against No. 1 Texas in a highly anticipated matchup in Week 8. The shove from Smart appeared to be accidental as he was not looking at Van Buren and was focused on getting his coordinator’s attention. The incident did not appear to have any malicious intent, and it seems likely that any player in that position would have received the same treatment.
