Mississippi Raises Flags to Full-Staff for Inauguration Day

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves has announced that American flags in the state will be raised to full staff on Inauguration Day, Jan. 20, in celebration of President-elect Donald Trump’s swearing-in. This decision deviates from the usual 30-day period of flags being at half-staff after the death of a president or former president, as was the case with the recent passing of President Jimmy Carter. Reeves’ action follows a similar move by Texas Governor Greg Abbott. Flags in Mississippi will be raised at sunrise on Jan. 20 and returned to half-staff the following day until Jan. 28 in honor of President Carter. Reeves stated that Mississippi is excited to celebrate this historic day and looks forward to Trump’s inauguration as president. This gesture marks a departure from tradition and signifies the state’s support for the new administration.
