Auburn Dominates Mississippi State in Win Without Star Johni Broome

Auburn, led by Chad Baker-Mazara’s strong performance, secured an 88-66 victory over Mississippi State on Tuesday night. The Tigers showed they could handle the absence of star player Johni Broome, who is out with an ankle sprain. Despite the loss of Broome, Auburn dominated the game from the start, with Baker-Mazara scoring 18 points in the first half. The Tigers took a commanding 19-point lead at halftime and maintained their lead throughout the game.

Baker-Mazara finished with 20 points, while Chaney Johnson added 17 points and Miles Kelly contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds. Mississippi State’s Josh Hubbard led his team with 17 points, followed by RJ Melendez with 15 points and Claudell Harris Jr. with 11 points.

The win pushed Auburn to a 16-1 record, marking the seventh time in program history that they have achieved this start and the third such occurrence under coach Bruce Pearl. Despite Broome’s absence, the Tigers seem to be handling the situation well, as they continue to perform strongly in the SEC. With tough matchups against ranked opponents like Georgia and Tennessee coming up, Auburn’s depth and resilience will be put to the test. The win was part of a night of exciting SEC matchups, including Ole Miss’s road upset over Alabama and Kentucky’s victory over Texas A&M. Auburn’s ability to excel without Broome bodes well for their prospects as they navigate a challenging schedule ahead.
