Jackson State University’s acclaimed marching band, the Sonic Boom of the South, recently made its debut at the Rose Parade. Now, the university’s football team is set to be celebrated with another parade following their victory as HBCU national champions in the 2024 season.
The Tigers secured their fourth national title by defeating South Carolina State in the Cricket Celebration Bowl, marking the first time they had won the game since its establishment in 2015. To honor their accomplishments, the city of Jackson will be holding a parade on January 17, with festivities beginning at 6 p.m. downtown, followed by an official afterparty and fundraiser at M-Bar Sports Grill.
Under the leadership of head coach T.C. Taylor, Jackson State Football achieved redemption after previous appearances at the Celebration Bowl without a win. This victory marks their first national title since 1996, solidifying their place in history.
Fans are invited to attend the parade and afterparty, where they can also have the opportunity to take photos with the Celebration Bowl Trophy. This event promises to be a memorable celebration of the team’s hard-earned success. Tickets for the afterparty are available for purchase, with various activities and raffle items planned for the evening.
Overall, the combination of the Sonic Boom of the South’s Rose Parade debut and Jackson State Football’s national championship victory showcase the university’s dedication to excellence in both music and athletics.
