Major tech investments in Mississippi transforming the state’s reputation

Mississippi continues to attract major economic development projects with the announcement of a $10 billion datacenter project by Compass Datacenters in Lauderdale County. Governor Tate Reeves praised the project as a testament to the state’s business-friendly environment and shift towards becoming a technology hub. The datacenters will create thousands of jobs and bring new investment to the state.

The project follows a similar $10 billion investment by Amazon Web Services in Madison County last year, highlighting Mississippi’s growing appeal to high-tech industries. Reeves emphasized the state’s commitment to fostering innovation and growth through pro-business policies.

The Mississippi Development Authority offered incentives to Compass Datacenters, including tax breaks and exemptions, while local entities like the City of Meridian and Mississippi Power Company are supporting the project. The effort to bring Compass Datacenters began in February 2024 and involved infrastructure upgrades to accommodate the new facilities.

Governor Reeves highlighted the state’s strong economic performance, with a low unemployment rate and significant GDP growth. He emphasized the need for population growth and workforce development to meet the demands of new industries moving into Mississippi. Universities and community colleges are playing a key role in providing the necessary training and skills for the state’s evolving job market.

The announcement of the project received positive responses from business and political leaders, with State Auditor Shad White lauding the administration’s role in driving economic development. The influx of investment signals a promising future for Mississippi’s economy and job market.
